Well it all started back in North Carolina, Raleigh to be exact.

I grew up in a sweet small southern town where everyone greets each other with a big “Hi Y’all”. As far back as I can remember my Grandpappy had a large garden in his back yard.  Nothing like Grandpappy’s vine ripe tomato just picked, hot from the sun, sliced on top of a piece of white bread covered in homemade mayonnaise.

We called my great grandmother Gramps. She was the real deal. She walked into her backyard, grabbed a chicken, rung its neck and soon the smells of fried chicken and gravy would bring us children inside, hands washed and ready.

My dad was a politician so he would take the family out on the weekends to canvas the nearby “one stoplight towns” with my mom and us three girls. We would walk around and say “vote for my daddy.” We were regularly invited to the local pig pickings . Whole pigs slow cooked and basted for hours with secret recipes. We literally picked the succulent pig meat right off the homemade grill accompanied by hush puppies and coleslaw.

After a major in Economics at UNC-Chapel Hill and working my way up to Vice President of a large North Carolina bank, I decided I wanted to experience a different sort of life education. I moved to Costa Rica for a good five years and started a couple of small businesses all while exploring the country and the rich biodiversity. I enjoyed the local markets and I began to shop each day for what I would eat that day. I learned the language and the culture by living it, eating it and working in it. Again I infused local and homegrown into my world and added the daily devotion of shopping and planning for that day.

I moved back to the states and landed in southern california. Yes, a long way from my roots but magically containing the exact feeling nature of home that I love.  I settled in the same way as I did before spending time at the local farmers markets. Learning the land so to speak through what she had to offer me in the form of foods. I began to study the healing powers of herbs and foods. Actually I began to study everything related to food both ancient and modern. Then came the cookbook feast. I devoured cookbooks by reading through them to get ideas, spark inspiration and learn. I still do that.

Next, I homebirthed two amazing, extraordinary children. I realized that I had been given the greatest gift life has to give. With a newly emerged self in place I took on being the best mother I could be day in and day out. I began to nuture. I nutured my growing family with the best ingredients and menu ideas I could make.

Wednesday was baking day and my children and I would watch the baby yeast rise, grow up and make wonderful breads. We posted a sign outside the gate that said HOT PITAS NOW and delighted in the neighbors stopping by, drawn in by smell and signage. We couldn’t eat all that I made so I began selling vegan muffins to a local coffee shop. One thing led to another and I had a few local eateries asking for soups, pies, and muffins. I enjoyed expanding my nuturing outward into the community.

Currently I have a regular Saturday booth where I sell some of the recipes you’ll find posted. I have a dedicated clientelle that I enjoy cooking for every week. I have been a private chef for a high profile musician and family for many years. Cooking for a master of their craft has really allowed me to find the true nature of what I do best, create healthy comfort food that nurishes. I am a caterer in the homes of some of LA’s most successful families.

I have grown my art of using amazing ingredients with my skill for preparing simple, delicious, healthy dishes. I nuture through food preparation and I love a gathering of friends and family around a table enjoying food prepared from the heart.

I call my skill and passion Intuitive Nuturing. I cook from the heart and that is where my life has brought me to.
